Energy Transition: Maximizing Opportunities for Young Engineers in Nigeria’s Future Energy Industry (powered by Gas & Renewables)
Synopsis: Energy has become increasingly essential for human development and as such, society faces a dual challenge to provide reliable and affordable energy to a growing population, while reducing environmental impacts, including the risks of climate change.
As the growing population in Nigeria gain increased access to energy, rising living standards will create a middle class expansion resulting in greater energy demand for homes, transportation, electricity, customer goods etc. The challenge is to satisfy this growing demand, while reducing the risk of climate change.
To solve this growing concern, there is a global push to transition towards greener energy, increasingly backed by statute, causing a wholesale rethink for governments and oil majors to increasingly pulling out investment from fossil fuel projects.
In Nigeria, based on the huge oil and gas reserves we have, Energy Transition from crude oil to gas can provide a means to transit to a cleaner form of energy while meeting the energy demands of our growing population. This presents a huge opportunity for engineers and entrepreneurs to take advantage of the opportunities across the entire value chain for skills acquisition and wealth creation.
This conference provides an avenue for Young Engineers to brainstorm and provide insights on how to prepare themselves to take advantage of the current and future energy industry in Nigeria.
SPE Nigeria council invites undergraduate and post-graduate (MSc and PhD) level students attending higher institutions of learning affiliated with SPE chapters within the Nigeria Council of SPE to submit their abstracts for the 2022 SPE Nigeria Student Paper Contest.
The contest will be held within the framework of the 20th Student Technical Symposium STSE 2022 of SPE Nigeria Council, by the first quarter of 2022. Awards will be given for the top three papers in each division at the Nigerian Annual International Conference & Exhibition (NAICE 2022). Papers must be relevant to the theme of the symposium.
Significant papers written by the contestant during the school term may serve as a source or basis. Students need to be sponsored by a professor of their institution, who will guide and aid in the development of the paper. Only single-author papers are eligible. The paper must not have been accepted for publication in an SPE peer-reviewed journal prior to or at the time of submission for the contest nor should it have been presented at a previous SPE Regional Student Paper Contest. All submissions must be made via the CMT online portal; https://cmt3.research.microsoft.com/STSE2022
